You’ve probably heard of this popular cannabinoid commonly known as Delta-8. But what is it exactly? Well, for many people it is the only legal form of THC they can get their hands on. When referring to THC, people are talking about Delta-9 THC which is a similar compound to Delta-8. However, Delta-8 is made from Legal Hemp and not cannabis, so it can be bought and sold almost anywhere where you would find CBD. There are some states, mostly states with legal cannabis that have laws and regulations preventing the sale of Delta-8.
How is Delta-8 Made?
Delta 8 occurs naturally in Cannabis and Hemp plants in small amounts and can also be made with organic synthesis. It’s also important to point out that most Delta-8 for sale is synthetic and made from CBD. So while is is naturally occurring compound, most of it is chemically produced using CBD.
Delta-8 is an isomer of Delta-9 THC and looks very similar. Delta-8 and Delta-9 both contain a double bond, D8 on the 8th carbon and D9 on the 9th. This causes them both to have different interactions with your endocannabinoid system.
Delta 8 is considered less potent than Delta-9. Many people report a similar high to that of Delta-9. Some say it is similar but they don’t suffer from paranoia or anxiety when smoking Delta-8. Everyone reacts to cannabis differently so the only way to know for sure is to try yourself.
Is Delta 8 Safe?
There haven’t been many tests on Delta-8 and the potential harm. However, with anything there are always going to be good and bad products. Just because the packaging looks nice doesn’t mean the products inside are good quality. There are plenty of brands selling cartridges, concentrates, edibles, infused-flower, and more.
The FDA has not evaluated or approved any Delta 8 products at this time. However there are also no CBD products approved by the FDA. It appears as they are not planning to evaluate either anytime soon.
